    Protecting Groups in Organic Synthesis
(Institute of Chemistry Ceylon, 2019-01) Weerasinghe,Laksiri
Creating a complex target molecule with a sequence of reactions, including intermediary re-functionalization with a correctly placed skeleton, is often a challenging task. One of the key issues in such endeavor is chemoselectivity. Protecting groups play an important role in multistep organic synthesis to improve the chemoselectivity in subsequent steps.

Role of Synthetic Organic Chemistry in Sustainable Agriculture
    (Institute of Chemistry Ceylon, 2020-05) Weerasinghe,Laksiri; Chathurika,Surani
Undernourishment and malnutrition are major human health concerns in the developing world and these issues are becoming major threats with the increasing population.1 According to the FOA, in 2050 the world’s population is expected to be increased by 2 billion.Providing nutritious foods in adequate amount for the increasing world population is a challenging task.2 Sustainable development in agriculture is critically important to improve theglobal food security and food nutrition. To achieve this goal world’s agriculture has to increase the quantity and diversity of foods. Synthetic organic chemistry has playing a major role in crop protection and food protection. The control of pathogens, insect pests and weeds has been the major contributor to the agricultural yield. New agrochemicals has got escalating demand. Safe and efficient new organic molecules with new mode of actions will claim a place in agriculture for many years to come.
